Reduced Friction

Nu-Edge brackets have set the standard for all metal brackets, producing the lowest friction levels when compared to stainless steel brackets of similar design.1 Nu-Edge mini brackets are the first orthodontic appliances to be made of cobalt chromium, which provides several advantages over stainless steel.

Using Co-Cr alloy provides increased surface hardness as compared to other alloys. This reduces friction forces, which are influenced by surface roughness and hardness. Furthermore, this harder material prevents archwire slot collapse from occlusal stress.

Nu-Edge brackets are cast, not machined or milled. This process produces an exceptionally smooth, precision archwire slot which further enhances the bracket's low-friction properties.

Corrosion Resistant

Extensive bracket corrosion can cause increased surface roughness, premature debonds, undesirable clinical side-effects, metal ions released into the patient's saliva and black or green enamel stains. Some grades of stainless steel are fairly corrosion resistant; however, they still do not compare favorably to the Co-Cr alloy that makes up the Nu-Edge bracket.

Enhanced Adhesive Bond Strength

Nu-Edge brackets feature a patented, chemically enhanced bonding surface called PrimeKoteŽ. After an intensive high-energy plasma cleaning process, the bracket base and mesh receive this exclusive polymer conformal coating to stop premature bond failures. Compatible with all orthodontic adhesives, PrimeKote improves bracket bond durability by establishing an intimate chemical bond between the adhesive and the mechanical interlock of the mesh base.

Economical Purchasing Program

It is well known that metal brackets can rust or oxidize when exposed to atmospheric humidity, especially if they are stored in inventory for a significant period of time. Nu-Edge brackets eliminate this issue. Not only is the Co-Cr alloy naturally corrosion-resistant, but the addition of PrimeKote protects the metal mesh base - thereby prolonging the brackets' ability to achieve strong bonds until you're ready to use them.

Fast and Easy Enamel Cleanup

Applying PrimeKote polymer coating to Nu-Edge brackets has also shown to provide maximum adhesive transfer from the tooth surface to the mesh base during debonding. As a result, most of the adhesive remains on the bracket base for simplified clean-up.

Several Prescription Options

Nu-Edge brackets have a familiar mini-twin design that makes them easy to use and popular among industry professionals. Nu-Edge brackets are available in several prescriptions to match your preferred treatment technique:

For enhanced treatment versatility, Roth, BioTech, and High Torque prescriptions are also available with a vertical slot option that accepts auxiliaries up to .018".

Nickel-Free for Sensitive Patients

Most stainless steel brackets contain 8% - 10% nickel which can cause contact allergies during orthodontic treatment. Nu-Edge brackets are 99.9% nickel-free. This helps ensure biocompatibility for nickel-sensitive patients, providing a worry-free treatment option.

In fact, because of such allergy concerns, Co-Cr alloy has successfully replaced stainless steel in many orthopedic implant devices in recent years.
