The Flip-Lock Herbst reduces the flaws inherent in other mandibular advancement appliances. TPO's Flip-Lock Herbst has several major advantages over any other design:
Freedom of Lateral Mandibular Movement
Freedom of movement is one of the greatest improvements found in the Flip-Lock HERBST appliance. The simple ball-joint hinge design and the length of the tube/piston mechanism have been engineered to provide a wide range of lateral mandibular motion for the patient.
Significantly Reduced Breakage
To prevent the breakage experienced in other HERBST appliances, the removable screws and pins were eliminated, the number of moving parts were reduced, and the attachment mechanism (ball-joints) were introduced into the Flip-Lock design.
Easy Assembly
Both the piston and the sliding tube lock by hand onto ball-joints without using any special instruments.
Activates in Seconds
The Flip-Lock HERBST design makes it extremely easy to activate. Crimpable Spacers activate the appliance and eliminate the need to remove tubes and pistons each time an adjustment is made. Office visits are very short for activation appointments.
Two Flip-Lock Designs
Flip-Lock Herbst appliances are available with and without a cantilever. The cantilever design eliminates the need to band or crown mandibular bicuspids, and it can be used in conjunction with fixed appliances, if desired.
One-Piece Cantilever and Ball
Cantilevers have a patented one-piece design that eliminates welding the ball hinge to the cantilever. This saves fabrication time and provides resistance to breakage. The flat cantilever design assures a sturdy weld to the mandibular molar band or crown to eliminate another area of concern for breakage.
Reduced Occlusal Interference
The unusually low profile and step-down shape of the cantilever is designed to improve patient comfort and reduce occlusal interference.
Horizontal Slot
The anterior ball hinge on the cantilever design is available with and without a horizontal slot. An archwire up to .022" x .028" can be inserted into the slot, if desired. The ball hinge without a slot offers a lower profile height.
